We help educators by providing additional materials that they can check out and use in the classroom. Educators can sign up for a special Teacher card at the Public Services desk. Teacher cards have longer borrowing periods and more generous limits than a standard library card. We will select materials based on your guidelines and have them ready to pick up. To apply for a teacher library card, you must present a letter from your employer on their letterhead stating you are a teacher of a school OR
If you are homeschooling, provide a copy of a receipt for the curriculum you have purchased and a letter for approval from the school district in which you live (on their letterhead).
You must have a regular library card, in good standing, at any Portage County Library.

Reed Memorial Library is happy to help your students obtain library cards, too! Library staff will provide you with copies of our Youth Library Card applications for your students' caregivers to complete and return. See more details about this library card here.
This limited-use library card is best when you need to get students under the age of 18 a library card quickly. It can be used to borrow all digital materials plus up to three physical materials at a time. No adult cosigner is needed, and we provide you with a notification letter to send to parents. We'd love to have your class visit to learn about all the things they can enjoy at their local library . Fill out this online form or contact us directly to schedule a tour. Visits will be scheduled to the extent that staff limitations and other program or service priorities in the Youth Services Department permits. Classes outside Ravenna City limits must check with their local library first.
Use your Teacher Loan Library Card to request books and other library materials for use in your classroom. Stop in, give us a call or use this online form to make a request. We will select materials based on your guidelines and have them ready to pick up at the library by the date requested. Please allow at least 24 hours for us to fill your teacher loan request.
Educators are encouraged to invite library staff for in-person or virtual class visits. Read-alouds, book recommendations, technology lessons and more are available. Area preschools and daycares are encouraged to contact Youth Outreach Associate Hayley Lescsak directly to arrange visiting storytimes. Have fun with our class sets of educational technology to support skills like computational thinking, coding and teamwork. See the full list of available Technology Toys here. Educators may request technology toys for up to 6 weeks at a time. You may also specify in your request that you would like library staff-lead instruction for you or your students on using the specific technology toy(s) you borrowed. Staff-led instruction may be provided in-person or virtually. Contact Youth Outreach Associate Daniel Hukkanen to arrange Technology Toys lending and instruction.
